Emergency Ministry Warns of Abnormal Cold in Yugra

Cold weather continues to affect the Yugra region in western Siberia.

Abnormally cold weather is expected in Yugra on January 26-27. This was reported by the district department of the Ministry of Emergency Situations (MChS). The warning particularly concerns the Nizhnevartovsk district.

According to rescuers, the average daily air temperature is 15 degrees Celsius (27°F) or more below the climatic norm. The Crisis Management Center reminds everyone to strictly adhere to safety measures. First and foremost, it is necessary to limit time outdoors and refrain from long trips.

Residents of Yugra are also advised to:

  1. Dress in layers, wear warm shoes, a hat, and mittens.

  2. Avoid long trips by personal vehicle. Be prepared for winter emergencies on the road. Have a fully charged phone, a thermos with hot tea, warm clothes and a blanket. Inform relatives of your route and stay in touch. Maintain distance and choose a speed according to weather conditions.

  3. Refrain from consuming alcohol outdoors.

  4. Monitor the condition of relatives and close ones living in private houses.
