The Yekaterinburg administration is exploring options for organizing free metro travel for children. Deputy City Head Rustam Galyamov discussed this in a live broadcast on the portal E1.RU.
«There are technical difficulties because of the fare gate system,» the official explained. «But we are not abandoning the idea of free travel for children. Perhaps we will be able to provide free travel in the metro as well.»
Galyamov clarified that free travel for students on above-ground public transport will remain in place indefinitely.
The promotion that allowed discounts when paying through the Fast Payment System (FPS) will no longer be extended. At the same time, the city will retain a tariff with a monthly pass for 1500 rubles (about $17 at current rates).
The introduction of the new tariff structure led to a sharp increase in the popularity of travel passes. Their monthly sales increased from 2,800 to 25,000 units.
