Yaroslavl roads treated with sand, not modern reagents, city explains

Sand application on Yaroslavl roads has sparked discussion among residents about winter road treatment methods.
Yaroslavl residents noticed that on the morning of January 27, roads in Yaroslavl were being sprinkled with sand.
A sand-salt mixture is being deployed on central Yaroslavl streets to enhance traction and melt ice during winter conditions.
«I saw sand on Moskovsky Prospekt and Bogoyavlenskaya Square,» a reader of 76.RU said.
Residents were interested in why the roadway is being treated for ice with this material and not with modern reagents. We requested information from the mayor«s office.
«When treating the street and road network for ice, the municipal enterprise »Gorzelenkhozstroy« uses special reagents »Bionord«, »Ecosol«, and a sand-salt mixture. The basis of the sand-salt mixture is sand (which provides mechanical adhesion) and technical salt, which acts on ice, lowering its freezing point and accelerating melting,» the effectiveness of the method was explained by the press service of the city administration.
The mayor«s office added that the sand-salt mixture is considered the most effective material for treating roads after snowfall.
Recall that the authorities of Yaroslavl reported that they have intensified work to clear the city of snow that fell overnight. Meanwhile, in Yaroslavl, new snowfalls are forecast.
