A 60-year-old man in the Trans-Ural region was deceived while attempting to purchase a car from South Korea, the Kurgan Oblast prosecutor«s office reported.
According to the investigation, in October 2025, the man wanted to buy a BMW X5 from the Republic of Korea. He left his contact details on a website where sales ads were posted. Soon, a person who introduced himself as a manager called him and offered to transfer 4.5 million rubles (approximately $50,000 at current rates) for the selected car. The man transferred the required amount, and then he was called again and asked to pay for document processing at the border.
Under the influence of the scammers, the Trans-Ural resident over 2.5 months, from October 31, 2025, to January 15, 2026, transferred them 5 million 641 thousand rubles (about $62,700). But the long-awaited car never arrived. The man turned to the police, and a fraud case has now been opened.
The investigation has been taken under control by the prosecutor of Kurgan.
