Traffic Jam Stretches 14km on M-4 Don Highway

Near Rostov, the M-4 Don highway is being covered with snowdrifts, leading to a traffic jam that has grown to 14 kilometers in length.

Here is what drivers are saying about the situation.

«Where are the road workers? Are you planning to salt the road at all? From Rostov to Kamensk, it«s sheer ice.»
«Rostov to Shakhty. We«re stuck in a concrete serpentine. The road seems to be asphalt, but the ABS keeps kicking in. Strong crosswind.»
«From Platov to Zhuravli, we crawled for exactly an hour.»
«Today there is terrible black ice and a strong crosswind. The road surface is bare ice. It hasn«t been treated at all, and there are plenty of accidents.»
«The crosswind is strong and the snowdrifts are considerable.»
«I«m driving from Moscow to Taganrog. I»ve already passed Pyatikhatki. The entire highway is dry, except for [the section] from Kamensk to Rostov — snow is blowing from the shoulder. Overall, I wouldn«t say it»s slippery. Moreover, all services are salting this section. In my direction, four units of equipment were driving. I didn«t pay attention to the opposite direction, but I think everything is salted too. Where it»s really awful is from the exit to Platov. It«s blown over there specifically. And on the Rostov bypass, it»s a bit slippery. In front of me, a car skidded at low speed.»
«Due to side snowdrifts, the road is strange. There are two lanes, then suddenly in one lane there«s slush. You either dive into it, or they start braking and changing to the adjacent lane.»
«From Platov, there«s a traffic jam towards Moscow. The road is being swept over. Everything is at a standstill.»
«I«m stuck in a traffic jam towards Kamensk, haven»t reached Platov yet. The navigator says the traffic jam will take two hours.»
The regional traffic police (GAI) reported that at kilometer 1020, snowdrifts are forming due to strong winds, hindering passage. Special equipment is working on site.
Here is the detour route: exit at kilometer 1039 to the north via Novocherkassk — Persiyanovsky — Kamenolomni.
