In 2026, the authorities of Surgut intend to continue construction of several roads in the city and begin building new ones. Some projects are large-scale, requiring substantial financial investment, while others are not very big but no less important for the municipality.

A major project — the construction of an extension of Kirtbaya Street — is to be implemented in Surgut in 2026–2027. The authorities have already signed a contract with a contractor and are currently working out the details.

«We are now preparing to start work in order to minimize the load and stress on road traffic as much as possible,» said Andrey Armenchu, director of Surgut«s Capital Construction Department.

An equally large-scale project is the second stage of the Eastern Bypass Road with an exit to the Nizhnevartovsk Highway, which will connect the city with the new bridge and allow transit traffic through Surgut. All that remains is to demolish several buildings located in its path.

«Regarding the Nizhnevartovsk Highway, we have court cases ongoing for the three remaining properties because the citizens did not agree to sell them. Today, we are awaiting a decision,» said Ivan Sorich, director of the architecture and urban planning department.

Despite minor difficulties, work on the bypass road is already underway. First, utility lines will be laid, then the road surface.

«Together with the contractor, we are working on the supply of materials since an advance payment has been issued. It is necessary that all items be ordered from factories as soon as possible. We need to start the active phase of construction in the summer,» Armenchu said.

Also, project documentation for two sections — Usoltseva Street (from Yesenina to Shidlovskogo) and Shidlovskogo Street itself — is currently under expert review. Design work is underway for the Ivan Kaydalov Embankment. Its construction is scheduled for 2027.

«That road has been needed there for a long time. The area is built up, but unfortunately, there is no proper road. This year we will get the expert review and then consider the possibility of starting construction,» officials explained.

In addition, design work is being carried out for Griboyedov Street, which is planned to be expanded to four lanes and modernized with sidewalks and bike paths. The city also has less extensive projects that are necessary for the development of the road network. For example, near Tyumenskaya Street, two small passages — Zheleznodorozhnaya and Mostostroitelnaya streets — are planned to be built this year.

«The area is populated, people live there, and transport services also need to be improved, all access roads need to be made,» Armenchu said.

Project documentation has also been developed for another small road section located between Geologicheskaya and Yugorskaya streets. The possibility of funding is currently being discussed with the regional authorities since a lot of money is needed. The issue is that an external heating main runs through this area. The pipes are planned to be buried underground. And a beautiful area will be arranged on the surface.

By the end of 2026, construction of Street 3 «Z» will also be completed in Surgut; work is already underway. Soil replacement has been completed, backfilling and laying of utility lines are in progress. In the summer, the contractor will begin asphalting. This road will connect the dead end of Kirtbaya Street with the Tyumen Highway.

Earlier we reported that Surgut plans to open two new schools. But first, they must be purchased or leased from the developer.
