Snowfall Paralyzes Traffic on Volgograd's Longitudinal Highways

On the evening of February 2, heavy snowfall caused a huge traffic jam on the Second Longitudinal Highway in Volgograd. According to drivers stuck in the traffic, movement was paralyzed on the section of University Avenue between the Akvarel shopping center and the administration building of the Sovetsky District.

Eyewitnesses trying to return home from work at that hour report that the collapse occurred near the College of Oil and Gas public transport stop. They shared photos showing that the main problem was caused by trucks unable to overcome the ascent due to the formed snowdrifts.
According to current data from the Yandex.Maps service, the overall level of road congestion in the city is estimated at 5 out of 10. At the same time, individual sections, including the mentioned University Avenue, are marked in «red,» signaling critical difficulties. Motorists heading towards Akvarel or leaving from there are advised to postpone their trip to avoid getting stuck in a traffic jam stretching to the intersection with 35th Guards Division Street.
Events are unfolding similarly on the Third Longitudinal Highway, as reported by local anonymous Telegram channels.
«Trucks are skidding on the slope and uncontrollably rolling back. And this snow mayhem is only getting worse, the road is being covered non-stop! Be extremely careful!» — one such message is quoted.
Weather forecasters have warned drivers about black ice and snow cover on the roads. The forecast for the near future also remains difficult: increased snowfall and severe frosts are expected. In some areas of the Volgograd region, thermometer readings may drop to -27°C (-17°F) at night and to -19°C (-2°F) during the day. In Volgograd itself, temperatures will be higher: at night -12… -14°C (10…7°F), during the day -10… -12°C (14…10°F).
