Snowfall, Accidents, Overturned Truck Cause Moscow Traffic Chaos
The capital has been covered with snow since morning. Because of this, the road situation has significantly worsened: persistent traffic jams stretch on exits from the region and key highways, travel time has increased manifold. The Department of Transport is asking motorists to leave their cars at home if possible and switch to public transport.
«Due to the weather, traveling by car may take longer than usual. If possible, choose city transport. Maintain a distance three to four times greater than usual and avoid sudden maneuvers,» the department reported.
Drivers are recommended to allow extra time and prepare for the fact that the usual route may stretch 40–50 minutes longer.
The press service of Mostransavto reported where the most serious traffic jams are now. For example, on Kashirskoye Highway, a traffic jam has formed, and buses of routes No. 367p, 367o, 367psh towards Moscow are being directed via Aeroportovskoye Highway. The stops «Ammiachny Zavod» and «Aparinki» are temporarily not being served.
In the area of the village of Gorki, the situation is even more complicated because a truck overturned on the highway and completely blocked traffic to the region. Therefore, buses No. 420, 433, 466, 508, 593 are stuck in a dead-end traffic jam.
On the Shchelkovskoye direction and Fryanovskoye Highway, the situation is similar. At the 21st kilometer of the A-103 highway (Shchelkovskoye Highway) towards Moscow, traffic is hampered due to weather conditions, the flow is crawling, buses are delayed by more than 20 minutes. On Fryanovskoye Highway from Kablukovo to Fryazino — a dense accumulation of transport, public transport is already delayed by 30 minutes or more.
Due to increased traffic and snow, a heavy traffic jam persists on Pervomayskaya Street and Volodarskoye Highway: here buses No. 29, 367, 367o, 367n, 367v, 367sh are delayed, delays reach up to half an hour. In Lyubertsy, Oktyabrsky Prospekt has come to a standstill. There, in addition to snow, there was an accident, causing buses No. 4, 5, 346, 373 to run with increased intervals.
On Entuziastov Highway and Gorkovskoye Highway, a heavy traffic jam has formed for several reasons: the flow of cars has increased, and moreover, several accidents involving other vehicles have occurred. Essentially, this is one of the most problematic directions of the morning, so if possible, it is better to choose an alternative route or switch to the metro.
Earlier due to the snowfall, Mostransavto changed the routes of the busiest bus lines. Their operation was extended by one hour.
