In Samara Oblast, authorities plan to revive a previously existing suburban railway route. This was announced on Tuesday, January 27, by Vyacheslav Dmitriev, head of the KbZhD (Kuibyshev Railway), during an annual press conference.

«We plan to restore commuter train service between Syzran and Togliatti in 2026. We have been working toward this for a long time. The project is now in the final stage of approval. We plan to launch the route for the summer period and study the demand and passenger flow during this time,» said Vyacheslav Dmitriev.

The «Lastochka» has been operating in Samara Oblast since June 11, 2021. It is a high-speed electric train designed for suburban passenger transportation on Russian railways equipped with both high and low platforms. The maximum speed the train can reach is 160 km/h.
