A temporary ban on movement for passenger buses, minibuses, and freight trucks has been introduced on a section of the M-5 highway in the Chelyabinsk Region. The restrictions came into force on 3 February at 22:00 and will last until 10:00 on 4 February. They apply to the stretch from the border with Bashkortostan to the turnoff to the city of Chebarkul. The decision was made by the Federal Highway Administration «South Ural» due to adverse weather conditions.
By Wednesday morning, similar restrictions were extended to a section of the highway in the neighboring Republic of Bashkortostan. The road service clarified that the regime may be extended if the unfavorable weather persists. For current information on the road situation and to report incidents, contact:
  • Ministry of Transport Dispatch Service: (351) 237-88-92
  • Federal Highway Administration «South Ural» Duty Dispatch Service: (351) 263-52-56 (toll-free call)

The reason for the restrictions was a powerful cyclone that forecasters had predicted for the Southern Urals at the beginning of the week. The atmospheric vortex brought heavy snowfall and blizzards to the region, worsening visibility and driving conditions.
