Pobeda Airlines Found with Narrow Hand Luggage Gauges

At Moscow«s Vnukovo Airport, Pobeda Airlines was found to have deliberately narrowed hand luggage gauges. They were discovered by representatives of Rostransnadzor during a raid at the capital»s airports. The officials were examining the gauges of all airlines to check hand luggage sizes.

It was Pobeda that was found in violation. According to Aviatorshchina, the airline narrowed the width by about 1 cm, with the actual width being 26.2 cm instead of 27 cm. Meanwhile, Pobeda«s website states that passengers can bring luggage measuring 36 × 30 × 27 cm into the cabin.

As a result, Rostransnadzor issued Pobeda an order to eliminate the violations. They were required to remove all non-compliant gauges and replace them. According to Aviatorshchina, dozens of illegal structures were found. And it is not just at Vnukovo.

Pobeda said they see the problem with the supplier of these gauges.

«In one batch of gauges received from the manufacturer, a discrepancy was found between the actual dimensions of the hand luggage measurers and the required ones. The difference is 0.5 cm in width and is due to the thickened diameter of the gauge frame«s support profile. We have filed a claim with the manufacturer. All measurers found at Vnukovo with incorrect dimensions have been removed from service,» the press service of Pobeda Airlines said.

The carrier also added that they have now checked gauges across their entire route network — they comply with the required dimensions.
