Officials in Nizhny Novgorod join massive snow clearing effort
In Nizhny Novgorod, employees of the mayor«s office, district administrations, volunteers, and students participated in a mass snow clearing operation. About a thousand officials went out to clear the snow on the orders of Mayor Yuri Shalabaev.
Participants of the campaign worked at 21 social facilities, including kindergartens, schools, and clinics. Simultaneously, city streets were being cleared; for example, on Alexeevskaya Street in the city center, snow was removed by the «Unified Utility Operator».
KUGI employee Vadim Bochkov noted: «So much snow has fallen that only through the joint efforts of every resident can we combat this natural disaster. Therefore, I believe that everyone who can take a shovel and help in some way should do so.»
As a result, sidewalks and approaches to social facilities were cleared on the following streets and lanes:
- Piskunova Street, Gruzinskaya Street, Bolshaya Pereskrestnaya Street;
- Kholodny Lane, Urozhayny Lane, Gogol Lane.
In addition, paths to seven metro stations were put in order:
- «Strelka»
- «Leninskaya»
- «Proletarskaya»
- «Dvigatel Revolyutsii»
- «Burevestnik»
- «Burnakovskaya»
- «Komsomolskaya»
Earlier, Mayor Yuri Shalabaev assessed the road situation during rush hour, calling it difficult but predictable.
