Multi-kilometer traffic jams formed on several key highways:

  • along Udmurtskaya, Novikova-Priboya streets and the Molitovsky Bridge from Kuzbasskaya to Larin;
  • on Gagarin Avenue from Chapochnikova Street to Lyadov Square;
  • on a two-kilometer (1.2-mile) section of Rodionov Street approaching Sennaya Square;
  • as well as on Lenin Avenue.
Traffic began building on Lvovskaya Street as early as seven in the morning.

City residents are actively commenting on the situation on social media.

Road-clearing equipment is operating on the city«s streets amid heavy snowfall.

«I left home at six in the morning. I need to get to the upper part. I»m still standing on Novikova-Priboya. Trucks have stopped on the ascent to Shcherbinki,« shared one Nizhny Novgorod resident.

Drivers report numerous road traffic accidents in different districts. Accidents have been recorded on Gagarin and Lenin Avenues, Rodionov and Udmurtskaya streets, as well as on Moscow Highway.

The city administration reported that road services worked all night in enhanced mode. According to forecasts, the snow cover will increase by another 15 centimeters (6 inches). Weather conditions remain severe: the snowfall is accompanied by strong winds and frost.

«Despite all the challenges and difficulties, snow removal does not stop. As soon as the morning peak traffic time passes, columns of combined road machinery will return to work,» the mayor«s office reported.

The evening before, Nizhny Novgorod also faced 10-point traffic jams. The cause of the difficult road situation is a snow cyclone from Europe that has covered Central Russia.
