Nizhny Novgorod faces 10-point traffic gridlock after heavy snow

For the second day, Nizhny Novgorod is experiencing heavy snowfall. Due to the bad weather, the road situation in the regional capital is seriously complicated. On the morning of January 28, traffic jams in the Volga region capital reached 10 points, according to data from the service «Yandex.Traffic».

A huge traffic jam stretched along Udmutskaya Street, Novikova-Priboya Street, and the Molitovsky Bridge from Kuzbasskaya to Larin; on Gagarin Avenue from Shaposhnikova Street to Lyadova Square; on two kilometers of Rodionova Street approaching Sennaya Square, and other road sections. A massive jam is also on Lenin Avenue. Only lazy citizens this morning on the internet did not call Nizhny the «capital of traffic jams».
‘I left home at six in the morning. I need to get to the upper part. I«ve been standing on Novikova-Priboya until now. Trucks have stopped on the ascent to Shcherbinki,’ shared our reader.
Drivers also report multiple traffic accidents in the city. Several crashes occurred on Gagarin and Lenin Avenues, Rodionova and Udmutskaya Streets, as well as on Moskovskoye Highway.
The city hall reports that road workers have been working in enhanced mode all night. Today, an additional 15 centimeters (about 6 inches) of snow accumulation is expected. Weather conditions remain severe: the snowfall is accompanied by strong wind and frost.
‘Despite all challenges and difficulties, snow removal does not stop. As soon as the morning peak time on the roads passes, fleets of combined road vehicles will return to work,’ the administration reported.
The evening before, Nizhny was also gripped by traffic jams of 10 points. The reason is the same — a snow cyclone from Europe that blanketed Central Russia. How the city endured a serious snowfall yesterday and what forecasts meteorologists give, we tell in the article on NN.RU.
