Nikolaevsky Bridge to temporarily suspend bus lane — here's why

On Nikolaevsky Bridge, the dedicated lane for public transport towards Oktyabrsky District will be temporarily canceled, the Krasnoyarsk city hall warned.

Drivers will be able to use it from 08:00 on February 2 to 23:00 on February 16. Road signs will be dismantled in the area, and cameras will not record driving in the dedicated lane as a violation. Other violations will continue to be recorded.

The Department of Urban Economy and Transport decided to monitor how the cancellation of the dedicated lane will affect the traffic situation when exiting Tikhie Zori. Drivers often complain about traffic jams.

«After the opening of the exit to Nikolaevsky Bridge from the Pashenny microdistrict, traffic flows in this part of the city have changed significantly,» the department explained. «A large number of cars started using the new road section, bridge, and interchange. This has led to problems for residents of Tikhie Zori: during peak hours, large traffic jams occur at the exit from the microdistrict. Cars cannot merge into the flow coming from Pashenny.»

Computer modeling showed that installing traffic lights or other local measures will not significantly improve the situation. Therefore, they decided to try redistributing traffic. For two weeks of the experiment, traffic police crews will be on duty at the exits from Tikhie Zori.

Based on the monitoring results, the department will decide whether to cancel the dedicated lane on Nikolaevsky Bridge permanently.

In December, it became known that the city hall will seize 18 plots for road construction in Tikhie Zori.
