Million-follower blogger Anya Pokrov was shocked by the taxi prices in a popular ride-hailing service. To get to Sheremetyevo Airport and fly to her native Volgograd, she had to spend over 5,000 rubles (about $55 at current rates) — and that was just one way.
A screenshot reveals the expensive fare for a taxi ride lasting about an hour.

Problems with ordering taxis during bad weather arise even in Volgograd. At the beginning of the month, we already reported how some passengers complained about incredibly long wait times of up to 20 minutes. The press service of Yandex then explained that the driver shortage (and consequently — the change in cost and trip time) is directly related to the snowfalls.
“According to the service, the average arrival time in Volgograd is about 5 minutes. During morning and evening peak hours, as well as for orders to remote areas of the city, against the backdrop of the current bad weather — snow and gusty wind — the arrival time can increase and reach up to 8 minutes. During periods of worsening weather, demand for taxis usually rises, and some drivers may temporarily not go on duty due to more difficult road conditions.”
