Mayor Shalabaev Mobilizes 1000 Officials for Nizhny Snow Cleanup

In Nizhny Novgorod, snow removal efforts were joined by city hall employees, district administration staff, as well as concerned residents and students, according to the mayor«s press service.

Nearly a thousand officials gathered for the snow cleanup on the orders of Mayor Yuri Shalabaev. Together with activists, they cleared the aftermath of the bad weather at 21 sites, including kindergartens, schools, and clinics.

«So much snow has fallen that only through the joint efforts of every resident can we combat this natural disaster. Therefore, I believe that everyone who can pick up a shovel and help in some way must do so,» said Vadim Bochkov, an employee of KUGI (the Committee for City Property Management).

City streets were also cleared. For example, today, snow was removed from Alexeyevskaya Street in the city center by the «United Municipal Operator.»

In total, sidewalks and approaches to social facilities were cleared on Piskunova Street, Gruzinskaya Street, Bolshaya Perekrestnaya Street, and in Kholodny Lane, Urozhainy Lane, and Gogol Lane. Additionally, approaches to the metro stations «Strelka,» «Leninskaya,» «Proletarskaya,» «Dvigatel Revolyutsii,» «Burevestnik,» «Burnakovskaya,» and «Komsomolskaya» were cleaned.
