"It's Not Just Talk": Yekaterinburg Official on Second Metro Line

The chances of a second metro line appearing in Yekaterinburg have significantly increased. As Rustam Galyamov, the acting first deputy mayor of Yekaterinburg in charge of construction and public transport, said in a live broadcast on E1.RU, work in this direction is already underway.
“The regional and city budgets have allocated funds for the development of a feasibility study. I think we will start this work in the first quarter of this year. Today, preparations are underway for the technical assignment and the announcement of an auction. This work will include, among other things, route selection, surveys, and a seamless transition to design,” said Rustam Galyamov.
He noted that there is a lot of work ahead: it is necessary to determine the route of the line, obtain state expert approval, reserve land, and more. All this is needed to also understand how much the construction itself will cost.
Among the microdistricts, there are two leaders where the underground line is most likely to be extended.
“That the work will begin is not just talk. I think the auction will be announced in late February to March. Analyzing, we understand that the biggest passenger flow is in two districts: Akademichesky and ZhBI. There are many proposals, including creating some kind of combined line that could serve these two districts,” added the acting first vice mayor.
Earlier, Mayor Alexey Orlov commented on the construction of the second metro line — he announced the construction of two new stations at once. Prior to that, the mayor told when the further design of the underground in Yekaterinburg would begin.
