Ice Rain Paralyzes Voronezh with Traffic Jams and Accidents
Yandex Maps data indicates widespread traffic incidents and high congestion levels in Voronezh following the ice rain.
This morning, a sudden warming hit Voronezh. After yesterday«s -18°C (-0.4°F), this morning, on January 28, it was -7°C (19.4°F), and three hours later, thermometers showed almost 0°C (32°F). At lunchtime, ice rain began in the city.
Precipitation continued all day, leaving an icy crust on cars and asphalt.
«It»s hell on the streets!« say Voronezh residents who are currently trying to get home from work.
Drivers aren«t having it any easier. According to the Yandex Maps service, several accidents have already occurred in various districts of the city. However, the latter currently has issues with navigation and displaying the real situation on the roads, so Yandex Maps shows traffic jams of only 4 points. Meanwhile, the more »honest« 2GIS reports that Voronezh already has 7 red points. The worst situation is on the Antanova-Ovseenko ring road, where several accidents have been recorded.
Drivers are reminded that under the internal regulations of the traffic police, crews do not respond to accidents where only material damage is recorded. Handle accidents using the European protocol or with the help of accident commissioners. It«s not worth waiting for traffic police officers for hours.
