High-Speed Train from Samara to Ufa to Launch Soon, Says Railway Chief

A high-speed train will be launched from Samara to Ufa. This and other questions were discussed on Tuesday, January 27, at a meeting of journalists with the head of the Kuibyshev Railway Vyacheslav Dmitriev.

«Technical capabilities allow for launching »Swallows« to Ufa three times a week — Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. The head of Bashkortostan and the governor of Samara Oblast supported the project. It is now undergoing final approval. And it could be launched as early as April 30; we are technically ready,» said Vyacheslav Dmitriev.

One of the projects, which has been discussed for quite some time, is a direct train from Ufa to Kazan. However, Russian Railways explained why this is only a dream, and passengers are better off using road transport. Opinions of Ufa residents are divided: some urgently need such a train, while others are sure it«s just money down the drain.
