‘Hell to Vtorchermet’: Massive traffic jam hits central Yekaterinburg

On the morning of February 3, a serious traffic jam formed at the exit from the Vtorchermet district. Streets 8 Marta and Titova were bound by a 3.5-kilometer (2.2-mile) long jam heading toward the city center. Eyewitnesses report that the cause of the collapse could have been a Gazelle van that blocked the way for other vehicles.

The vehicle stopped with its hazard lights on at the intersection of 8 Marta and Akademika Shvartsa streets. Users clarify that the vehicle has been standing in the middle lane since at least 08:17. Meanwhile, the traffic jam continues to grow.
‘On Shvartsa and 8 Marta, a Gazelle is standing in the middle lane. The traffic jam is hell all the way to the final stop of Vtorchermet,’ noted a reader of the local news outlet E1.RU.
Overall, according to the Yandex Maps service, the road situation in Yekaterinburg is currently rated at seven out of ten points. Serious traffic jams are also observed in the area of the interchange near the Kalina concern and on Mashinostroiteley Street.
