On Wednesday afternoon, January 28, Moscow was gripped by 8-point traffic jams. The situation on the roads developed against the backdrop of heavy snowfall. The Department of Transport recommended that drivers switch to the metro today.

Traffic is particularly difficult in the center of the capital — on Suschevsky Val, Gruzinsky Val, the exit from Prospect Mira to the Garden Ring, and on the Garden Ring itself. Also stuck in traffic are Tverskaya Street, Novy Arbat, Pokrovka, Myasnitskaya Street, Bolshaya Yakimanka, Prechistenskaya Embankment, and the Luzhnetskaya overpass in the Luzhniki area.

Road conditions have deteriorated significantly as the snowfall continues to intensify.

On the entrance to the city, the Enthusiasts Highway from Balashikha and Leningradskoye Highway from Khimki are showing red on traffic maps.

The Department of Transport expects 9-point traffic jams closer to evening. The department added that traffic is likely to be difficult in the central part of the city, on the Moscow Ring Road (MKAD), on the inner side of the Garden Ring near Zhitnaya Street, on the Third Transport Ring (TTK) near Suschevsky Val Street, and on outbound highways heading to the region: Enthusiasts Highway, Shchyolkovskoye Highway, Leningradskoye Highway.

Also scheduled for today is a visit by the President of Syria to the capital. As reported by TASS, Ahmed al-Sharaa has already arrived in Moscow.
