Frost forces Yekaterinburg trams to alter routes

Due to abnormal cold, trams in the city center were redirected to other streets. The temporary changes were in effect until 12:00 on January 23.

On the morning of January 23, in Yekaterinburg, due to severe frost, problems arose with tram traffic. On the tracks along Radishcheva Street, the cars were skidding and rolling back, which forced them to be sent on altered routes.

As reported by the city transport department, a special traffic regime was introduced until approximately 12:00. The changes affected several tram routes.

  • Tram No. 3 temporarily runs from TsPKiO along Lunacharsky, Chelyuskintsev, Verkh-Isetsky Boulevard to the VIZ stop, then along Vikulova, Belorechenskaya, Moskovskaya, Lenina, Lunacharsky back to TsPKiO.
  • Route 17 is sent from «Keramicheskaya» along Titova, 8 Marta, Kuibysheva, Lunacharsky, Lenina, Verkh-Isetsky Boulevard, Khalturina to the loop on Kushvinskaya.
  • On route No. 12, changes affected only the «Spektr» model cars (car 804). They travel from the «40 Let VLKSM» station along Malysheva, Gagarina, Uralskaya, Lunacharsky to TsPKiO, then along Lunacharsky, Lenina, Chelyuskintsev, Uralskaya, Gagarina, Malysheva back. Other cars on this route operate on the regular schedule.

Tram routes No. 1, 10, 15, and 21 continue to operate without changes.

Transport problems on the morning of January 23 were observed in other districts of Yekaterinburg as well.

In the north of Sverdlovsk Oblast, the temperature dropped to -48 degrees Celsius (-54°F). Due to abnormal frost, remote learning was introduced in some schools.
