A Krasnoyarsk resident couldn«t register a traffic accident for over a day because, in his opinion, there was a shortage of staff at the accident reporting station. He told his story to a correspondent for NGS24.RU.

It all happened on the night of January 19. The man said another driver crashed into the side of his car. The accident had to be registered in the presence of traffic police inspectors because the other participant did not have insurance.

«I went to the traffic police to file the report. That was around 3:00 p.m. But we were only processed by the next day — by 4:00 p.m., meaning more than 24 hours. That same evening, as if to spite us, a woman also showed up at the same place, but by then they weren«t even processing reports anymore,» the man said.

At the traffic police regiment where accidents are registered, the man continued, other city residents told him — drivers don«t arrive before lunch, the rush starts only after.

«They say: «This queue happens with the onset of frost. Since Sunday, the employees have been swamped — poor guys, they work for pennies anyway,» the man added.

The State Traffic Safety Inspectorate (GIBDD/GAI) explained to the NGS24.RU correspondent that this indeed happens during frosts and icy conditions.

«There have been more traffic incidents, minor ones like someone accidentally bumping into someone else somewhere,» the GAI explained.

However, the numbers tell a different story — according to the State Traffic Inspectorate«s data, there were more accidents during a calmer period (for comparison, we took the period from December 11 to 18, 2025 — Ed.»s note). During that time, there were 562 incidents in total, including in Divnogorsk. At the same time, in the last week — from January 15 to 22, 2026 — there were 534 accidents.

We did not take a closer period, for example, the New Year holidays, because, according to the GAI, there were far more people on the streets then than now.

These numbers account for everything — so-called bumps, collisions, and even collisions with obstacles. But the numbers aren«t that different.

The State Traffic Inspectorate reminded that some accidents can be registered on the spot to avoid waiting for inspectors for hours. This can be done through the government services portal (Gosuslugi), a method suitable if both parties in the accident have insurance, no harm was caused to health or life, or no third-party property was damaged.

In such a case, you need to document the accident (photos or video — Ed.«s note), provide the drivers» details, describe the incident in writing, and attach witness information if available. With this method of filing, the driver affected in the accident can claim compensation of up to 400,000 rubles (approximately $4,000 at current rates).

«The app will have prompts for registration. You will need to enter the drivers« details, a description and photos of the incident, and witness data. The accident diagram is drawn by hand and photographed in the app. Using a QR code, drivers confirm participation in the accident and agreement with the report via Gosuslugi,» the GAI says.

After all these procedures, the vehicle can be moved off the roadway, but drivers can only leave after receiving a notification with the accident registration number. After that — accident participants can contact their insurance company for a payout.

If disagreements arise between the drivers or it is not possible to document the accident, they will have to call the inspectors. In that case, you can claim compensation of up to 100,000 rubles (approximately $1,000 at current rates).

Earlier, the NGS24.RU portal reported that the price of mandatory third-party liability auto insurance (OSAGO) has soared sharply across the country — to find out if the cost has increased in Krasnoyarsk and what this depends on, read this article.
