Delays Continue at Sheremetyevo Airport Despite End of Snowstorm Restrictions
Restrictions at Moscow«s Sheremetyevo Airport have been lifted. The air harbor did not accept planes for over three hours due to adverse weather conditions. As a result, some flights were rescheduled, and other aircraft were redirected to other airports. MSK1.RU shows what is happening at Sheremetyevo now and how it is operating.
According to an MSK1.RU correspondent, delays continue to be recorded on the departure boards. These are mainly flights whose arrival was scheduled during the restriction period. The delays are minor—on average no more than two hours. The Moscow Interregional Prosecutor«s Office has launched an inspection regarding Sheremetyevo.
During the snowfall, Sheremetyevo handled 185 flights of Russian and foreign airlines, of which 112 were departures and 73 were arrivals. Some aircraft that were supposed to land at the air harbor were redirected to Vnukovo and Domodedovo. Due to this, Pobeda Airlines changed the schedule of 15 aircraft: instead of Sheremetyevo, they will depart from Vnukovo.
«We ask our customers to check flight statuses by any convenient method before heading to the airport,» said the airline«s press service.
Like Aeroflot (Russian Airlines), which is based at Sheremetyevo, Pobeda Airlines has switched to enhanced operation mode. Both carriers announced schedule adjustments.
In total, since the start of the day, 22 departure flights (including those redirected to Vnukovo) and 12 arrival flights have been canceled at the air harbor for various reasons.
«Passengers of canceled flights SU-1140 to Sochi and SU-1192 to Kazan, please proceed to the check-in counter,» is announced over the loudspeaker.
While waiting for departure, some passengers are sleeping on benches in the terminals. However, no crowds or gatherings of people are being recorded in the terminals. Cleaning of the runway continues. As reported by Sheremetyevo, more than 90 units of special equipment are involved in the work. Since the start of the day when the snow began, the runway has been cleared 31 times.
