Cameras installed on dangerous railroad crossing in Nizhny Novgorod region

Surveillance cameras have been installed on a dangerous railroad crossing near Balakhna, where several accidents with electric trains have occurred in recent years. The new systems are intended to improve driver discipline and reduce the number of emergency situations on the tracks, according to the Privolzhsky Transport Prosecutor«s Office.

The cameras have been placed at the 48th kilometer of the section between the stations «Zavolzhye» and «Pravdinsk» near the village of Trestyany. Here, in the fall of 2023, a train collided with a truck that had entered an unregulated railroad crossing on a red traffic signal. The truck driver was killed on the spot, and the electric train derailed. The moment of the accident was captured on video camera recordings.

A year earlier, another fatal accident occurred at the same crossing. At that time, a passenger car driver tried to cross on red, but as a result, the car was hit by a train. And in the summer of 2025, an electric train struck another car that had entered the tracks. The driver and his passenger survived but required medical assistance.

Now, cameras are monitoring the situation at the railroad crossing. Information from them is automatically sent to the traffic police (GIBDD) so that violators can be held accountable.
