Surveillance cameras have been installed at a dangerous railway crossing in the Nizhny Novgorod region, located near Balakhna. As noted by the Volga Transport Prosecutor«s Office, these systems are designed to improve driver discipline and reduce the number of accidents, following several incidents with trains in recent years.
Video recording has been set up at the 48th kilometer of the stretch between the Zavolzhye and Pravdinsk stations near the village of Trestyany. In autumn 2023, a serious accident occurred at this unregulated crossing: a truck that entered the tracks on a red light collided with a train. The truck driver died at the scene, and the train derailed.
A year earlier, in 2022, another fatal incident happened at the same crossing — a passenger car trying to run a red light was hit by a train. Another incident occurred in the summer of 2025, when a train hit a car that was on the tracks. The driver and a female passenger survived but required medical assistance.
Now the situation at the crossing is monitored around the clock by cameras. Information from them is automatically sent to the traffic police (GIBDD) to hold violators of crossing rules accountable.
