Avtodor Urges Postponing Trips on M-12 Amid Freezing Temperatures

Forecasts indicate that severe frosts will affect multiple Russian regions, including areas along major highways like the M-12, in the coming days.
On Friday and over the weekend, sections of highways in several Russian regions are expected to see deteriorating weather conditions: snowfall and low temperatures. It will also get colder in Nizhny Novgorod Oblast, through which the toll highway M-12 passes. In connection with this, the state company Avtodor has issued an appeal to drivers.
In the coming days, snowfall is expected in the south of Rostov Oblast and the north of Krasnodar Krai, while severe frosts will hit Nizhny Novgorod and Sverdlovsk oblasts, Tatarstan, Chuvashia, Bashkortostan, and Perm Krai. According to forecasts, overnight temperatures in these regions will drop to -30…-33°C (-22…-27°F). Drivers traveling on the M-4 «Don» and M-12 «Vostok» highways are asked to be cautious and take weather conditions into account.
“We recommend paying special attention to the technical condition of your vehicle before the trip, having a supply of warm clothes with you, as well as a sufficient reserve of fuel in the tank. On the road, always maintain an increased distance from the vehicle ahead, avoid sudden braking and dangerous maneuvers. If possible, postpone trips in bad weather,” wrote representatives of Avtodor.
Additionally, during the frosty days, the temperature background in Nizhny Novgorod Oblast will fall below the norm by 9-14 degrees. According to forecasts by Nizhny Novgorod meteorologists, the cold will retreat only by January 27.
