Akademichesky District to Get Second Tram Route in 2026
Akademichesky District will receive a second route after the purchase of new trams.
A second tram route is planned to be launched in Akademichesky District as early as 2026. This was announced by the acting first deputy head of Yekaterinburg, Rustam Gallyamov, in a live broadcast on E1.RU. It will happen after the purchase of a batch of new trams (50 units) and the training of a new group of drivers.
At the same time, trams on the only route No. 1, which serves the district, will not run less frequently.
«There are no plans to reduce the number of vehicles on route No. 1. After all, a very large number of Akademichesky residents ride the tram,» noted Rustam Gallyamov.
Recall that earlier a source from E1.RU in the transport sector reported that the most likely candidate for the second route to Akademichesky is tram route No. 16. Also, an option with route No. 7 was considered.
Recall that the route changes are part of a major transport reform that was launched in the city in 2024. Since then, Yekaterinburg has managed to receive a batch of new «Sinara» trolleybuses. Also, the city will purchase fifteen three-section trams (they are planned to be sent to Akademichesky), although there were difficulties with the tender for their acquisition. Another acquisition will be articulated buses.
