Zabaykalsky Krai ombudsman released from hospital post-accident

Nikolai Khlyzov, the human rights ombudsman of Zabaykalsky Krai who was injured in a fatal car crash, has been discharged from the hospital. This was reported to a Chita.Ru correspondent on February 2 by the region«s health minister, Oksana Nemakina.
«Nikolai Khlyzov has been discharged for outpatient treatment,» the minister said.
The accident occurred on December 24 on the regional road from Darasun to Solntsevo in the Karymsky District. Nikolai Khlyzov was taken to the Zabaykalsky Krai Clinical Hospital in serious condition and was admitted to intensive care. Khlyzov«s driver died in the ambulance despite attempts by medics to resuscitate him. Colleagues of the ombudsman said that he was on a business trip to the Karymsky District, but they did not know the details of the incident.
The police department initiated a criminal case regarding the accident. The State Traffic Inspectorate and police have not disclosed which vehicle collided with Khlyzov«s car, whether anyone in the second vehicle was injured, or if the car veered into a ditch after the crash. Also, the police department did not answer who, preliminarily, is at fault for the accident.
On December 27, it became known that Nikolai Khlyzov was transferred from intensive care to the neurosurgery department, and he was recovering. Later, the head of the regional Health Ministry, Oksana Nemakina, reported that the ombudsman was in the traumatology department. He himself responded that he could not tell about the accident because he does not remember how it all happened. On January 21, Khlyzov was awaiting another surgery.
