Young hockey players from Sverdlovsk Region, Russia, were hospitalized with an acute intestinal infection in Arkhangelsk. Initially, seven children were admitted to the hospital.

“The number of sick has reached 8 people. According to laboratory tests, RNA of norovirus type 2 was detected in the clinical material of the sick,” reported the regional Rospotrebnadzor (Federal Service for Surveillance on Consumer Rights Protection and Human Wellbeing).

The children were staying at the Belomorskaya Hotel and all dined together at the Olivier restaurant, which is located nearby.

An epidemiological investigation is being conducted at the restaurant where the schoolchildren from Sverdlovsk Region ate. Samples of food products, drinking water, and environmental swabs have been taken.

The situation has been reported to the State Sanitary and Epidemiological Service of Russia. The Investigative Committee has opened a criminal case regarding the poisoning of minors.
