Yekaterinburg Teenager Hit by Car While Using Phone

A 13-year-old schoolboy with injuries was taken to the hospital after being hit by a car. The incident occurred when the boy was crossing the road, engrossed in his phone screen.

A road traffic accident occurred in Yekaterinburg on February 1 near house No. 70 on 8 March Street. A 13-year-old teenager was crossing the roadway at a pedestrian crossing against a red traffic light signal, engrossed in looking at his mobile phone.

A video from the accident scene in Yekaterinburg shows the aftermath of the collision involving a distracted teenager.

A Daewoo Nexia car hit the schoolboy. As a result, the teenager sustained head and leg injuries and was hospitalized. The driver was a 43-year-old resident of Chelyabinsk who attempted to brake urgently but could not avoid the collision. A medical examination confirmed that the driver was sober.

Materials on the fact of the accident have been sent to the juvenile affairs unit. The boy«s parents may face administrative responsibility for improper upbringing. The police also intend to check whether the school conducts classes on teaching children road safety rules.

«The State Traffic Inspectorate of Sverdlovsk Oblast calls on parents to daily remind children of the strict observance of traffic rules. Particular attention should be paid to the mortal danger of crossing on a red traffic light signal and the inadmissibility of using phones while moving across the road. Drivers should also exercise increased vigilance when passing pedestrian crossings and near stopping complexes,» emphasized the State Traffic Inspectorate of Sverdlovsk Oblast.
