Yakutia airline explains emergency landing in Krasnoyarsk due to icing

Vladimir Nikolayev, General Director of Yakutia airline, gave an official comment on his Telegram channel about the causes of the emergency landing of the aircraft operating flight 466 from Moscow to Novosibirsk to Yakutsk, which landed at Krasnoyarsk airport on the night of January 23 at 01:40. According to Nikolayev, part of the aircraft iced over due to low temperatures.
«According to preliminary data, the decrease in cabin pressure occurred due to icing on the valve regulating pressure, and a special commission is investigating the cause. The smell of burning is due to the operation of the oxygen generator that powers the passenger masks,» wrote Vladimir Nikolayev.
He explained that in case of pressure loss, the crew had to perform an emergency descent to a safe altitude according to instructions. The crew undergoes training for such situations twice a year on special simulators.
The press service of the airline told 14.RU that the cause of the landing was indeed icing of the aircraft«s pressurization system valve due to low temperatures. Final conclusions will be presented after the investigation by a special commission of the Interregional Territorial Department of Rosaviatsiya (Russian Federal Air Transport Agency).
Earlier, passengers complained that they were not provided with hotel rooms and there was no communication with the airline. Yakutia explained this by the absence of their representative at the airport, as regular flights to Krasnoyarsk are not operated.
«All passengers are provided with refreshments and hot meals. Considering the significant distance of the airport from the city, as well as the expected soon arrival of a reserve aircraft, it was decided to organize waiting for departure in the airport building,» added the press service.
The aircraft initially departed from Novosibirsk to Yakutsk on January 22 at 23:08 local time. Approximately an hour later, the crew recorded a decrease in pressure in the aircraft cabin. To ensure flight safety, the commander decided to land at Krasnoyarsk airport.
Aircraft were dispatched for the passengers from Vnukovo airport. Passengers are expected to fly from Krasnoyarsk to Yakutsk at approximately 13:40 local time. Yakutia airline offered sincere apologies to passengers for the inconvenience.
