Will the search for the Usoltsevs continue if relatives seek inheritance?

The Usoltsev family has been missing for over four months.
The criminal investigation into the Usoltsev family will not be halted if relatives initiate a process to have them declared missing in order to claim an inheritance. This was stated to TASS by Yana Syrymbetova, the deputy head of the first department for investigating particularly important cases of the Russian Investigative Committee«s Main Investigative Directorate for the Krasnoyarsk Territory and the Republic of Khakassia.
«We will work until we are certain that they were involved in an accident or that no crime was committed against them. When enough evidence has been gathered in the case, the appropriate procedural decision will be made,» Syrymbetova said.
Earlier, lawyer and former investigator Stalina Gurevich stated that in March 2026, under certain circumstances, the Usoltsev family could be declared dead:
«As a general rule, a person is declared dead after five years, and after six months they are declared missing. But if it is known that the person disappeared due to circumstances that threatened their life, they can be declared dead after six months. However, this must be based on an event that actually took place: an avalanche, a terrorist attack, a traffic accident,» she explained to TASS.
On Friday, January 30, the search for the Usoltsevs was resumed on the investigator«s instruction. The Usoltsevs disappeared four months ago. On September 28, Sergei, Irina, and their five-year-old daughter went hiking in the Partizansky District and did not return. The main theory is that an accident occurred. All available information on the family»s disappearance is being compiled into one report.
