On the evening of 19 July, a decorative banner covering renovation work on the facade of the Volkov Theatre in Yaroslavl caught fire. Eyewitnesses started sharing photos.

«Last evening, the photofacade (decorative banner with an image of the building during work) on the Volkov Theatre caught fire,» stated the group «Overheard in Yaroslavl!»
Local residents suspect the banner fire was an act of arson.

The cause of the fire has not yet been determined, but in comments local residents are suggesting arson. Svetlana Starkova stated: «People were standing nearby, but I didn’t manage to see exactly who; let them check the cameras, it clearly didn»t ignite on its own.«
According to the Yaroslavl Oblast MChS (Ministry of Emergency Situations), a report of the fire came in at 22:56. Two fire trucks and eight rescuers were dispatched to Volkov Square, 1. The flames managed to cover three square meters of the banner, but it was extinguished in three minutes. «No casualties,» the agency noted.
Additionally, that same evening at 22:37, another fire occurred on Morozovskaya Street, 4, not far from Frunze Avenue. A huge column of smoke rose, and extinguishing took four hours.
