Volgograd Market Owners Clear Debris After Devastating Fire
Owners of trading points at the wholesale construction market in Volgograd have begun clearing debris after a night fire, but cannot yet assess the full damage.

A major fire occurred on the evening of January 27 at the wholesale construction market in the Tulaka microdistrict of Volgograd, in the «Volgino» development area in the Sovetsky District. According to the Ministry of Emergency Situations (MChS), 1,500 square meters were engulfed in flames. Open burning was only extinguished by the morning of the next day.

Just the day before, these signs were not damaged.

The Main Directorate of the Ministry of Emergency Situations for the Volgograd Region reported that the fire signal was received by the dispatcher at 20:24. Units of the 4th Fire and Rescue Department dealt with the fire by 02:40. There were no fatalities or injuries. The cause of the fire is currently being determined.

In a few hours, the fire almost destroyed a business that took years to build.

Specialists working at the scene preliminarily established that the fire started from the southern part of the building. The flames destroyed the roof and part of the wall. A man in camouflage pants was seen on the market territory, whom other traders called the owner of one of the warehouses. He declined to comment.

Goods that did not burn in the fire were hopelessly spoiled by soot, smoke, and a large amount of water used in extinguishing. The owner of the «Santekhstil» shop, inspecting the damaged goods, responded to a request to talk about what happened: «Not up to you now, buddy. Go ask someone else.»
