Utility Accident Cuts Heat in Kazan, Residents Turn to Electric Heating

Kazan residents were warned that due to a utility accident on Vishnevskogo Street, the pressure and temperature of the district heating fluid may drop. This means radiators will become colder. Some residents have already felt the changes.
City hall claims a complete heat shutdown is not planned, as supply was temporarily switched to the Azino boiler house. However, the Sovetsky District administration warned that a pressure drop is expected in the residential complexes «XXI vek», «Moy ritm», «Yaratam», «Parusa», and some houses on Adelya Kutuy Street.
The cooling has already been felt in the «Mechta» residential complex.
«The heating temperature dropped gradually, now they are practically cold. I have electric underfloor heating in my apartment, I turned it on,» noted one resident, Rinaz.
Heat supply is promised to be restored in the near future. Emergency services are already working on site.
The leak onto the roadway has been eliminated, reports the city hall. Four machines are pumping out water. Road workers are removing ice and treating the roads with a reagent to prevent it from turning into a skating rink.
The accident on the heating main near the Sukonnaya Sloboda metro station occurred today, January 23, in the afternoon. Due to clouds of steam enveloping the city center, visibility on the roads was almost zero. Some streets were temporarily closed to traffic. The steam was so thick that some citizens from a distance mistook it for smoke from a fire.
