Urals mother wants drunk driver who killed daughters to live long and suffer
Svetlana Shipitsina is the mother of Kira and Anya, who died on 27 October 2025. At an intersection near their home in Revda in the Urals, the schoolgirls were hit and killed by a drunk driver. Now Mikhail Slobodyan is behind bars, but Svetlana fears the criminal will avoid criminal responsibility and go to the special military operation (SVO).
The girls« mother gave her first interview and told how she lives after the tragedy and why she does not want the culprit to go to the special operation zone. The video was published on his Telegram channel by lawyer Alexander Shumilov — he represents the interests of Svetlana and the parents of another girl, Lisa, who was injured in this accident.
«I don»t understand why I wake up every day«
Just a few months ago, Svetlana had two daughters: nine-year-old Anya and seven-year-old Kira. Now the girls rest in neighboring graves.
The schoolgirls« parents have long been divorced, and the children lived with their mother. On the day of the tragedy, their friend Lisa came over for a sleepover, and Svetlana let all three go to the store across the street — to buy sweets. Her daughters never returned home. On the sidewalk, they were struck by a car. Behind the wheel was a 37-year-old active participant in the special military operation. He was dead drunk, drugs were found in his blood, and bottles of alcohol were in the car.
«It»s very hard, absolutely every little corner reminds me of them. Every thing: how and where something lies. Everything at all. There is no place or moment where there are no memories with them. It seems to me that they are about to come right now. But they don«t come,» Svetlana says.
The mother has not touched anything in the children«s room. All the girls» things remain in their places: their photographs, toys, drawings. Anya was engaged in dancing, and Kira had just started going to a choreography studio with her sister when her life was cut short.
In court, Slobodyan only briefly apologized to Svetlana for destroying her daughters and depriving the woman herself of the meaning of life.
«When a child appears, you already live for them. The brightest moments, all the love you receive only from children. Even from parents, I think, it»s not like that. And when there are no children again, it seems, what do you even wake up for? I just don«t understand why I wake up every day. And everyone says: you need to learn to live for yourself somehow. Learn to breathe again,» Svetlana says.
Mikhail Slobodyan faces up to 15 years in a penal colony for the fatal accident. The mother of the deceased girls hopes he gets the maximum sentence and also wishes the criminal a long life.
«No one who hasn»t lost their children will ever understand this. I want him to live long and suffer. I have no thoughts of him dying. I specifically want him to live and suffer. If, of course, he even knows how to suffer,« says the mother of the deceased girls.
«They look at her with pity»
Lisa, 11, who survived the accident, went through intensive care and a coma. Now the girl is learning to walk again, moving only with a walker or on crutches. Doctors had to insert pins into her leg.
The parents still remember how they learned about the fatal accident.
«We were called from the Revda reception center. We immediately asked: what happened? We just had a breakdown. We didn»t understand what was happening. And then we found out that Kira and Anya had died,« Lisa»s father recalls.
Lisa is taking her first steps after the accident at the Irina Volkova rehabilitation center. Her father carried the schoolgirl into the clinic in his arms. Doctors say progress is already noticeable. Perhaps in the future she will even be able to return to dancing — before the accident, the girl studied in the same studio as the deceased sisters.
«Where there are children, where there is fun, where there are happy people, I immediately start crying. Not to go ride on slides, not to go to any Christmas tree. There are always many people everywhere, and pushing her in a wheelchair — it»s inconvenient. She is very embarrassed, feels discomfort from the fact that they seem to look at her with pity. Several times she said: «I don»t want to be seen like this,«» Lisa«s parents said.
At the time of the accident, Slobodyan was an active fighter in the special military operation. He came to Revda on leave after being wounded and then bought the car with which he hit the girls. He has a wife and child, but at home, according to his spouse, he did not appear, instead drinking and driving around the city.
«Would a hero take drugs? Drunk, gets behind the wheel. A hero is a hero so that people can take an example from him. And who is he? No one,» says the father of the injured girl.
«Retribution must be cruel»
The case of the fatal accident is being handled by Yekaterinburg lawyer Alexander Shumilov. According to him, Slobodyan has already asked several times to be released from pre-trial detention to the special military operation. The victims« representative hopes to do everything possible to prevent this.
«For us, this case is free, it»s called pro bono. We don«t take money for it, because we believe that the person should face the most severe punishment. Of course, it won»t bring back the lives. But it is important for us that the amounts are recovered. In this case, retribution must be very cruel. Not harsh, but cruel, so that people feel that justice has prevailed,« Alexander Shumilov believes.
The start date of the trial against Mikhail Slobodyan has not yet been set.
