Ufa Gymnasium Shooter Teen Still in Custody

Nearly a day after his arrest, a 9th-grade student who fired an air rifle at his teacher and classmates in Ufa remains in custody with no pretrial restraint order yet.

Almost a day has passed since the detention of the teenage boy, who opened fire with a pneumatic rifle on a teacher and fellow students at a gymnasium in Ufa. According to UFA1.RU, he has not yet been given a measure of restraint.

Recall that the incident occurred yesterday. The 9th-grader burst into the classroom of his homeroom teacher and, declaring that he was fed up with school, fired at the teacher with the pneumatic rifle, then started aiming at other children. Fortunately, no one was injured. The «shooter» was detained and interrogated.

A source at UFA1.RU reported that the young man is still in custody, and a restraint measure will be chosen later — today or even tomorrow. Earlier, the Investigative Committee of Bashkortostan said that investigative actions are being carried out with the accused. A criminal case has been opened under the article «Attempted Murder».

In addition, there is another case — «Negligence», under which the gymnasium’s management is being investigated. The school’s director stated that the «shooter» had never caused any complaints, but his classmates and teacher said that the boy had problems with studies and peers. The head of Bashkortostan, Radii Khabirov, called for not covering up bullying and promised to «sweep out» heads of educational institutions who try to hide such incidents.
