A UAZ «Bukhanka» van overturned on the ice of Maloye More (Small Sea) after falling into a crevice, resulting in the death of a Chinese tourist, according to the Telegram channel of the Main Directorate of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs for Irkutsk Region.
The accident occurred on the morning of January 28 near Olkhon Island in the Malomorets area.
«The woman died from her injuries on the spot before the medical team arrived. According to eyewitnesses, the other passengers were not injured. This information will be verified,» the police message states.
The Telegram channel «Zapovednoye Pribaikalye» (Olkhon and its waters are within the boundaries of the protected national park) clarified that there are other victims in the accident. Medical assistance was needed for two more people, who are suspected to have head and spinal injuries.
An investigative-operational group, employees of the migration unit and the State Traffic Inspectorate went to the scene, and all circumstances are being clarified.
In addition, the regional prosecutor«s office will conduct an investigation into the incident, assessing compliance with legislation in the field of passenger transportation safety and service provision.
