The Ural Transport Prosecutor«s Office reported the sentencing of a Tyumen resident for committing a terrorist act and money laundering.
The department stated: «The court found that in November 2024, a minor (who has now turned 18. — Ed.) as part of a group, on the order of an unidentified person acting in the interests of Ukraine, set fire to a relay cabinet on the Voynovka–Tyumen section of the Sverdlovsk Railway.»
A relay cabinet is a reinforced metal cabinet used for controlling, automating, and protecting railway equipment.
The investigation also established that the teenager received cryptocurrency equivalent to 47,000 rubles (approximately $470 at current rates).
«Taking into account the position of the state prosecutor, the court found the defendant guilty and sentenced him to eight years in prison to be served in a general regime colony. The money was confiscated for the state,» the prosecutor«s office noted.
Criminal cases against other members of the group have been separated into separate proceedings.
In December 2024, law enforcement agencies already detained minor Tyumen residents on suspicion of attempting to set fire to a relay cabinet.
