One of the victims was the mother of a local resident, Yevgenia. Unknown individuals placed an order for 132,000 rubles (approximately $1,500 at current rates) from her account, using the «pay in parts» option.

«Goods were selected through my mother»s account using payment in parts. This is an installment plan, and the first payment is due two weeks after the order is received. My mother didn«t have a card from a third-party bank linked to the marketplace, so how the scammer managed to arrange the installment plan is a big question,» Yevgenia said.

Among the purchased items were snowboarding gear, vitamins, an air fryer, a gaming keyboard, and a mouse. Notably, the criminal, using someone else«s account, even contacted technical support to complain about the order delay, thereby revealing the pickup point. Yevgenia and her mother have already filed a police report.

According to Yevgenia, the marketplace itself is recognized as the injured party in the case, and her mother is participating as a witness.

Another incident happened to a relative of Natalya A. Her son-in-law«s Wildberries account was hacked and gift certificates were purchased. After contacting support, he was refunded only three thousand rubles (approximately $34). The man did not contact law enforcement.

Two other female residents of the city confirmed they faced a similar scheme involving installment payments. In one of the accounts, the amount of unauthorized purchases amounted to 48,000 rubles (approximately $545).

A request for comment on the situation was sent to the Wildberries press service.

«The security systems of our services are reliable, so criminals try to look for weak spots in people, using social engineering methods. We regularly record fraud attempts, especially during periods of increased shopping activity. However, we have not observed any recent surges—everything fits within the annual seasonal trends,» the company stated.

To protect against fraudsters, Wildberries representatives advise following these rules:

  • Do not share codes from SMS and push notifications with third parties.
  • Do not transfer bank card and account data.
  • If you have any suspicions, immediately contact the service«s support team, and in case of financial loss, immediately block your card and file a report with law enforcement agencies.
