Residents of Tyumen have contacted the editorial office of 72.RU with complaints about fraudsters operating on Wildberries. Money is disappearing from their accounts for purchases made by other people who hacked their accounts. The editorial office has received information about at least four identical cases.

For example, as a local woman named Yevgenia claims, her mother«s account was stolen and goods worth 132,000 rubles (about $1,400 at current rates) were ordered.

«Goods were ordered through my mother«s account with payment in installments. This is an installment plan, and the first payment is due two weeks after receiving the order. My mother didn»t have a card from a third-party bank linked to the marketplace, so how the fraudster managed to arrange an installment plan is a big question,» Yevgenia reasoned.

The person who made the purchase bought snowboarding equipment, vitamins, an air fryer, a gaming keyboard, and a mouse. After that, using someone else«s account, they even allegedly wrote to technical support about a delay in the order, thereby revealing their pickup point. Yevgenia and her mother filed a report with the police about the fraud.

«The injured party is the marketplace, and my mother is listed as a witness in the case,» the Tyumen resident said.

Natalya A. found herself in a similar situation. She told about the problem her relative faced.

«My son-in-law also had his Wildberries account hacked, and they ordered gift certificates. After contacting technical support, only three thousand rubles (about $32) were returned,» a Tyumen resident wrote in one of the city chats. She also told a 72.RU journalist that her relative did not contact the police.

Two other Tyumen women reported being in the same situation involving installment payments. In the account of one of them, goods worth 48,000 rubles (about $505) were purchased.

The editorial office of 72.RU requested a comment from the Wildberries press service.

«Our services« protective systems are reliable, so malefactors try to find weak points in people using social engineering methods. We regularly record attempts at fraud, especially during periods of increased purchasing activity. However, we have not observed any surges recently — everything fits into the annual seasonal trends,» the company said.

To protect against fraudsters, the company suggested using the following rules:

Do not share codes from SMS or push notifications with third parties;

  • Do not share bank card details and account information.

  • If any suspicions arise, we recommend immediately contacting the service«s support, and in case of financial losses — immediately block the card and file a report with law enforcement.
