Two 15-year-old teenagers have been charged with attempting a terrorist attack on a railway in Bashkortostan. The Investigative Committee of Russia«s transport department announced the arrest. The teenagers are in custody.

According to investigators, on January 27 the pair set fire to railway equipment near Yanaul station, for which they were promised 15,000 rubles each (about $200 at current exchange rates).

«The arsonists were carrying out orders from online recruiters acting against the interests of the Russian Federation,» the Central Interregional Transport Department of the Investigative Committee said.

The department reported that interrogations and searches have been conducted, and forensic examinations have been ordered. The detainees have been officially charged and remanded in custody pending investigation. Investigators, together with officers from the FSB in Bashkortostan and the transport police, are establishing all the circumstances.

«Acts of a terrorist nature carry criminal liability up to life imprisonment,» the Investigative Committee noted.
