Tuberculosis case detected in St. Petersburg school No. 575

A case of tuberculosis was detected in a canteen employee at school No. 575 in St. Petersburg. The woman, who worked as a dishwasher, was an employee of a contractor company, and the school administration learned about this on January 19.

On January 25, the head of Primorsky District, Bogdan Zastavny, stated that anti-epidemic measures began immediately after the case was discovered. A doctor promptly arrived at the school, all premises were disinfected, and the food service staff underwent medical examination. Extraordinary checks were also organized for all students and staff of the institution.

According to Zastavny, before being allowed to work, the woman had a valid health book and had undergone fluorographic examination. The district head emphasized that nothing threatens the lives and health of children and teachers, and the school, within a week, fully completed all planned examinations together with specialized services.

Previously, parents of students appealed to the head of the Safe Internet League, Yekaterina Mizulina, with a complaint about the school administration in Primorsky District. They claimed that a cook in the canteen was found to have an open form of tuberculosis, and the institution«s management tried to hide this fact. The school director refused to comment on the situation.

The St. Petersburg health committee explained that closing the school for quarantine is not planned, as tuberculosis is not a quarantine infection. For examination, a mobile fluorographic unit from the City Tuberculosis Dispensary was sent to the site. No additional cases of the disease were identified, and the building was disinfected.

The regional branch of Rospotrebnadzor (the Federal Service for Surveillance on Consumer Rights Protection and Human Wellbeing) began a sanitary-epidemiological investigation of the incident.

Investigators in Primorsky District are conducting a pre-investigation check to clarify all the circumstances of what happened.
