A resident of the village of Priiskovy in Nerchinsky District showed footage of a garden flooded by groundwater. She sent a video to the Chita.Ru editorial office, complaining about the local administration«s inaction and the damage — the disaster left her without a harvest.

Rising groundwater from the Nercha and Shilka rivers caused water to appear in crawl spaces of private homes.

«People have to wade through water and look for detours. Local and district authorities are inactive. A house-to-house survey and damage recording have not been carried out. People are left alone with the disaster,» the eyewitness said.

According to her, groundwater flooded the gardens due to high water levels in the Nercha and Shilka rivers. Gardens and household plots were damaged, and water appeared in the crawl spaces of private homes.

On July 21 in Chita, Governor Alexander Osipov held a meeting to discuss flood control and dam construction.

Following the meeting, Osipov noted that the Chernyshevsky, Nerchinsky, Tungokochensky, and Alexandrovo-Zavodsky districts were significantly affected.

«There are no flooded houses at the moment. We are continuing to restore bridges and roads,» the governor wrote on Mash.

He noted that the water level on the Nercha River approached the historical maximum of 2018. At the same time, «the protective structures in Nerchinsk and Priiskovy ensured the protection of the population and minimized the consequences of the flood.»

According to him, commissions should assess damage to housing and property as soon as possible, draw up reports and start payments.
