Tram Derails in Volgograd, Halting Service in District

Tram traffic has once again been paralyzed in Volgograd. This time the incident occurred on 51st Gvardeyskaya Street in the Zhilgorodok district, on a section where a major overhaul of the tracks and overhead lines has not yet been carried out.
The incident on the tram tracks was reported by readers of the local news outlet V1.RU. According to them, a tram car derailed on the section between the «Polyclinic No. 18» and «Youth Center» stops.
“Good morning! In Zhilgorodok, between the 18th Polyclinic and the Youth Center, the front of the tram came off, so most likely trams won«t go towards the center,” residents report. “Those waiting for the No. 5 and No. 10 trams towards the center can stop waiting. Collapse!”
In photos sent by a V1.RU reader, the car is seen leaning unnaturally on the front part of the body. It is possible that the cause of the disruption was the derailment of the front bogie of the car.
The Volgograd city administration confirmed that the emergency occurred with a car operating on route No. 5. Currently, workers are trying to put it back on the rails and understand the reason for the derailment. Trams heading to Zhilgorodok are currently operating on a shortened route, turning around at the tram loop near Khorosheva Street.
It is known that the incident involved a car manufactured in 1978, assigned to Depot No. 2 and still in service. In March 2018, the car underwent repairs at the depot.
