Teenage Rapist Gets 8-Year Sentence in St. Petersburg

The court found the teenager guilty of attempted rape, rape, and violent sexual acts. The United Press Service of the Courts of St. Petersburg reported this on February 3.

According to the investigation, on July 19 last year, an intoxicated youth attempted to rape a woman born in 1966 at a grocery store, but his plans were foiled by an alarm. Undeterred, he then committed unlawful acts against a girl born in 2003 and assaulted another victim.

During the trial, the defendant pleaded not guilty. He claimed he did not attack one of the victims, and that the incident with another was, in his words, «consensual» and committed for 6,000 rubles (approximately $67 at current rates). The court deemed these arguments unfounded.

Taking into account a previous sentence by the Krasnoselsky District Court on November 29, 2023 and under Article 70 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, the court partially added the unserved portion of the sentence under the cumulative sentences. As a result, the teenager was sentenced to 8 years of imprisonment to be served in a juvenile correctional colony.

According to the investigation, the first police report was filed by a 22-year-old citizen of Uzbekistan. She reported that an unknown attacker came up from behind, sprayed pepper spray in her face, grabbed her by the neck, and dragged her into the bushes near a house on Massalsky Street. There, after pushing her into a pit, he assaulted her, including in a perverted form.

The girl«s screams were heard by a witness who saw the suspect dragging her towards a park. The man called the police, and the 17-year-old resident of the Krasnoselsky District was caught hot on the trail. He had previously been convicted of robbery, mugging, and hooliganism.

On the same day, a 59-year-old resident of St. Petersburg contacted law enforcement. According to her, at the entrance to a store on the same Massalsky Street, an unknown young man attacked her, tearing her clothes, grabbing her intimate parts, and saying that he «loves her but won»t let her go alive.«
