Due to an accident at Potma station in the Republic of Mordovia, several passenger trains traveling to and from the capital were delayed. Among them was train No. 65 Tolyatti–Moscow, which fell behind by more than two hours.

«The accident caused delays for the following passenger trains: No. 21 Ulyanovsk–Moscow (by 2 hours 59 min); No. 65 Tolyatti–Moscow (by 2 hours 16 minutes); No. 31 Orsk–Moscow (by 2 hours 31 minutes); No. 14 Moscow–Chelyabinsk (by 1 hour 44 minutes); No. 42 Moscow–Saransk (by 1 hour 13 minutes),» the Kuibyshev Railway said.

The incident occurred today at 02:40 at a station on the Kuibyshev Railway. According to preliminary data, the tanker truck driver drove onto a controlled crossing in front of an approaching passenger train No. 21 Ulyanovsk–Moscow. The engineer applied emergency braking but could not avoid the collision.

As a result of the accident, the truck driver was injured. Passengers and the train crew were not harmed.

«The rolling stock did not derail, but the truck became trapped under the locomotive and its cab was damaged. Emergency services are working at the scene,» the company clarified.

The company reminded drivers to strictly follow the rules when crossing railway tracks. Traffic on the section is currently being restored.

Loss of vigilance at railway crossings can end in disaster — a recent serious collision occurred not far from Tolyatti. There, an SUV crashed under a Lastochka electric train returning from Samara.
