SUV crashes into Swallow train near Zhigulevskoye More station
The driver attempted to brake, but could not avoid the collision.
This morning, February 2, a severe collision occurred between an electric train and an SUV at a railway crossing between the Zhigulevskoye More and Khimzavodskaya stations.
The SUV turned into scrap metal.
«A Niva SUV drove onto the tracks right in front of the moving suburban train »Swallow« No. 7111 Samara—Tolyatti. It was traveling on the Novokuybyshevskaya—Tolyatti route. The driver attempted to brake emergency, but the distance to the car was insufficient, and the collision could not be avoided. The car driver sustained injuries. After the incident, the »Swallow« was delayed for 21 minutes but then continued its journey,» reported the Volga Transport Prosecutor«s Office.
The driver was taken to the hospital with injuries.
Investigators from the interregional transport management are already at the scene. They are determining why the car ended up on the tracks and checking compliance with safety rules.

«The investigation is proceeding under the article on violations of railway transport operation. Based on the check results, a procedural decision will be made and the degree of guilt of the incident participants will be established,» reported the Central Investigative Department for Transport of the Investigative Committee of Russia.
A set of initial investigative measures is being conducted, and all circumstances of the incident are being established.
A similar accident occurred at this railway crossing at the end of January. Between the Zhigulevskoye More and Khimzavodskaya stations, a driver of a foreign-made car drove onto the tracks in front of an approaching suburban train and ended up under the «Swallow». The traffic police clarified at the time that he ran a red light.
